Wolfe’s Neck Park –

This is a state park five minutes from downtown Freeport. There are gorgeous trails to accommodate most activity levels. Be sure to check out the Casco Bay trail, which offers views of surrounding islands, Osprey nests, and more.
Wolfe’s Neck Center
– this is walkable from the Harding house. It’s a working farm focused on teaching sustainable farming practices. At this time of year, you’ll see baby animals and many grazing cows. There are outdoor activities here – trails, kayak rental, etc. There is a small lunch spot offering burgers, lobster rolls, and ice cream.
Porcupine Mountain – hike up to a staggering 334 feet with views of the surrounding area. Trails are appropriate for most activity levels.
Beyond Freeport (day trips)
Portland – The Old Port is very walkable, with a variety of options for shopping, museums, and many great restaurants. If you’re feeling adventurous, check out a side trip to Peak’s Island – just a short ferry ride across the harbor.
Kennebunkport – charming town with shopping and riverside restaurants featuring fresh oysters and other local fare
Cape Elizabeth – The Portland Head Light (this is the light house on the Maine quarter – and well worth a visit)
Lobster Shack at Two Lights – arguably one of the best lobster rolls in Maine. Be prepared to wait in a line or plan to go before or after peak lunch times.
Brunswick/Bowdoin College – worth a visit. Bowdoin has some great museums and is very walkable.
The Maine Maritime Museum – in Bath – Check out the boat tour of the river that features views of many small lighthouses, eagle sightings, etc. (This is a great activity for kids!)
Camden – looks like a postcard, and has great shopping, eating, and more. There are some great hikes within a short distance of town.
